xbox-xbmc color range: standard or extended?

I bit late in the game for this question but I was monkeying around with a miyazaki dvd yesterday and since I now have the 360 and xbox 1 in the same room I thought, quot;Let's do a frame comparisonquot;. What I found is that when comparing PQ of both side by side, dvdplayer in xbmc was much more washed out, and rather suprisingly my Sceptre Naga 1080ps upscaler does a slightly better job than whatever software that xbmc uses to perform upscale content, but that's neither here nor there.

Bllacks appeared alot more gray in hue. I understand there's probably a hw limitations so is xbmc using rgb levels 0-255 gui, and then crunching to 16-235 in playback? also, which video renderer does xbmc use?

Of course, there's also that the 360 is hooked up via digital connection (hdmi) and xbmc via component, but ideally, I'd like the xbmc playback pq to be at least as good, because the gui is 10x better.
